Do You Believe In Life After HOVA
Well it’s finally over… Cher is retired… that is, until they add 90 more shows to her current farewell tour. I swear, this has to be the LONGEST retirement tour to have ever existed. My parents saw her over a year ago at the Hollywood Bowl in what was supposed to be her “farewell performance”. That was until they added another 4,000 dates to her already two year long tour. I can’t say that I will miss her, she’s never really been my bag (baby), but I do see a striking similarity between her “retirement” and Jay-Z. Yes, J-HOVA has become the Cher of hip-hop.
Since releasing his magnum opus “The Black Album” he has toured and has collaborated almost non stop for the past year, and I really see no end in sight. He's now an exec with Def Jam, he owns part of the New Jersey (Brooklyn) Nets and has countless other side projects.
Is it really a retirement if you never actually stop working?
Not that I’m complaining, I thoroughly enjoyed his collaboration with Linkin Park as well as the unlicensed “The Grey Album” but when you say that you “dropped the black album/and then you backed out/as the greatest rapper alive” and a year later you are still hanging around, ummm… how far do you have to back out?
I mean at least KISS had the decency to actually quit for a few months BEFORE they came back for another retirement concert.
Happy retirement Cher, see you next year…

Ha! Ha! Ha! That was too funny. It was even funnier in writing! Yeah...Jay-Z...I have such mixed feelings about him. He is pretty darned talented but at the same time really annoying. That "It's A Hard Knock Life" song was BRILLIANT and hilarious ode to the plight of poor black kids everywhere, yet...it really annoyed me! And the stuff with Lincoln Park, I must disagree with you dear blogger. I thought it was on beyond silly. Songs you need on your iPod now: anything by M.I.A., the whole Brazilian Girls cd AND anything but Tegan and Sara...whatta wiccan nightmare!
I LOVED the Encore/Numb mix. My biggest beef with Jay-Z half the time is that although I respect his flow, I find most of his beats boring. Encore is a perfect example of this. Great rhymes, boring beat structure. In comes Danger Mouse and/or Linkin Park and it really adds something to the song.
I wanted to include something by M.I.A. but I have yet to get that disk so I couldn't make up my mind. I keep hearing the M.I.A. song (don't get me started on self titled songs again) on XMU and I like that one.
And don't be hating on Tegan and Sara! I needed some Canadian content in there and even you have to admit, "Walking With A Ghost" has a hook that is catchy as hell.
I don't have to admit to anything, especially about Tegan and Sarah. But, thanks for the CanCon! As for M.I.A. the song has no title, it is the hidden song on her cd. So it's extra odd that that's the one they keep playing! But, I checked the liner notes and there is no title mentioned for that song. So, blame XMU!
Thnx!
I’ve always lived by the premise that it’s not what your like, it’s what you like :)
