Happy LOST Day!
I don't usually get all that excited about TV shows, but this is the exception... LOST premieres tonight!!! I have to admit that after watching the first episode I was anything but hooked... in fact I was a little repulsed... I have what might be called a "mild fear of flying". OK so I was pretty much scared shitless to fly for a better part of my life. Now, I'll get on an airplane, but that's only because I spend the better part of an hour before hand getting my alcohol levels up to their proper level :)
Anyway... back to LOST. What impresses me the most about this series is that it actually seems like they have a plan.. they aren't just writing the episodes randomly. Everything they do serves a purpose towards an ultimate payoff. This is a rarity these days in the age of instant gratification. Don't watch it, but I from what I hear about the O.C., it really seems like they are writing each and every episode flying by the seat of their pants. They have no build and the payoff is too quick for it to really have any affect on anything. The "slow build" is truly an art form.
Finally, once you get this slow build, it MUST actually lead to something. Again I was never an X-Files fan, but from all I heard the slow build and mystery was part of the draw to that show, but by the end of the series they really never solved anything, or at least the payoff wasn't nearly worth the wait. Whether LOST will actually payoff has yet to be seen, but from what I've heard, they have plot outlines to last them years. Time will tell...
Well I'm off...

did anybody else notice that the voice synch for the first half of LOST was off? Or was it just me?
